Dr. Lora Bulmahn did her undergraduate work at Valparaiso University (Valparaiso, IN) and then attended the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences for medical school (Bethesda, MD) and graduated in 1993. She then completed a 3 yr residency in Family Medicine at Eglin Air Force Base Regional Hospital (Ft Walton Beach, FL). She went on to overseas duty at Osan Air Base, Republic of Korea for 1 year then was assigned with the 22nd Fighter Squadron at Spangdahlem Air Base, Germany. She cared for and flew with the F-16 pilots for two years before joining the Fighter Wing and the B-1B bombers at Mtn Home Air Force Base in Idaho. Her final assignment was at the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, CO where she completed her commitment to the Air Force in 2003. She moved to the Boulder, CO area and joined a civilian medical practice for 3 years. During this time, she completed a 2 year Associate Fellowship in Dr. Andrew Weil's Integrative Medicine Program at the University of Arizona (Tucson). After graduation, she had a vision to open her own practice which would utilize the best of both Western (allopathic) and Eastern medicine (acupuncture, herbal medicine, Traditional Chinese Medicine, energy medicine...), in a progressive and caring environment for patients.
Brenda VonStar, FNP joined AFH in May 2009 as a second health care provider with Dr Bulmahn. She is a Family Nurse Practitioner who started her career as a Navy Hospital Corpsman during the Vietnam War. After discharge from the Navy, Brenda attended and graduated from nursing school in Oregon. She moved to beautiful Colorado in 1973 and worked at several Denver metro area hospitals over the next six years. She desired to further her education and thus earned her Family Nurse Practitioner certificate and Master's Degree from CU Denver Health Sciences Center in 1979. She is trained to see all age groups and is authorized to prescribe medications, see acute problems (ie colds, fevers, sprains/strains, simple lacerations), do preventive exams (paps, physicals) and manage chronic problems such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes. Brenda has acquired a breadth of knowledge and wide experience working with all ages in the delivery of health care. She has a warm and caring spirit and goes above and beyond in all she does.
Elizabeth (Liz) began with Advanced Family Health as its Billing Manager and Receptionist when the doors opened for business on April 4th, 2007. She has excelled for over 10 years in the area of medical billing and office management throughout the Denver metro area. She brings a wealth of experience and cheery smile to all patients that walk through the front door. Liz lives with her husband of 31 years, Michael, and her daughter Raelynn and grandson, Branden. Liz enjoys to travel the world in her free time as well as spending time with family, reading and socializing with friends.
Valerie (Val) is an employee of Quest Labs and joined the practice as our phlebotomist in early 2009. She has been a phlebotomist (lab technician-drawing blood) for over 9 years and has been working with Quest for 6 months. Her experience shows every time she draws blood-patients are often amazed at how efficient and effortlessly she does her job, always with a quiet smile. Val is a proud mother of 2 beautiful children, ages 13 and 7. She enjoys cooking and reading in her free time, as well as catching up on the latest movies.
